Ref. 14568Residents of Bratton woke on Sunday morning to find heaps of rubble strewn across their path after a 12-foot retaining wall collapsed into the road.
Council experts are still trying to work out what caused the 9am collapse in Stradbrook, which was finally set to reopen to traffic yesterday after the debris was cleared away.
Emergency services were on the scene 15 minutes after the fall and residents were without gas until the following day.
Homeowner Alan Martin and his family were advised to stay away while surveyors ensure no further collapses are likely. They were not due to return until last night at the earliest.
West Wiltshire District Council building control manager Glyn Jackson said: "When I first got down there on Sunday I thought 'this could be very serious'. But after we carried out initial investigations we started to feel more reassured. We are reasonably confident that the house is not at risk although we cannot say this with absolute certainty before we do more investigation."
