TEACHERS and pupils have been finding their way around a new school in Westbury this week.
Over 300 pupils began term on Monday at the new Westbury Leigh Primary School after making the move from the 170-year-old building just two miles away.
The state-of-the-art school building in Leigh Park has 14 classrooms, an IT centre and a science room.
Headteacher Mary Murray, said: "There were a few teething problems with access but that is to be expected on the first day.
"The children were all very excited but enjoyed themselves and behaved very well.
"They all got a tour of the school in the morning and I'm sure they will have no trouble finding their way around now."
Students had outgrown the previous school where lessons were taken in nine mobile classes in the playground and two rooms in the main building.
Mrs Murray said: "It makes a difference that now you don't have to dodge the rain any more between lessons.
"We really must thank the contractors Stoneform because everything has been finished well before schedule."
Staff worked during the Christmas holidays to make Monday's move possible.
The former school in Westbury Leigh is now likely to be knocked down for housing as part of a deal with developers Persimmon Homes.
