Police are looking a man who threw a wine bottle at a barmaid and an ashtray at the bar in the Beehive pub.
The man arrived in the pub carrying a white poodle dog with another man who had a black Lurcher-type dog on December 30.
Later in the evening he is alleged to have hit a barmaid on the hand with a bottle before nearly injuring a customer when he threw the ashtray.
PC Gary Jones said: "This is a strange assault because the Beehive is a quiet pub.
"There was a dispute with the bar staff and this sort of thing never usually happens there.
"We think this man could be from the boating community, living on the canal."
The man is described as white, in his late 30s, 5ft 5ins, and of stocky build with cropped hair.
Anyone who can help police trace the man is asked to contact PC Jones on (01225) 862222.
