WILTSHIRE'S wildlife is under continuous threat as a direct result of climate change in Britain, according to a leading environmental charity.
Dr Gary Mantle, director of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, said: "A million land-based species could become extinct in the next 50 years if the current rate of change continues."
Regular severe flooding could pose serious problems for people in the UK, and a major contribution to climate change is the emission of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere. Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is urging a two-pronged offensive on the problem involving protecting wildlife and changing human lifestyles to slow global warming.
Information on cutting household emissions can be obtained by phoning the Energy Efficiency Advice Line, based at the Trust, on 0800 512 012.
