CHIPPENHAM Town manager Steve White believes his side did more than enough to take all three points against Weston-super-Mare on Boxing Day.

The 1-1 draw means that Chippenham go into tomorrow's match against Nuneaton Borough without a home win all season, but White knows that had his side taken their chances things could have been very different.

He said: "I am disappointed not to have taken all three points. The first half was a very even affair, but we have had two excellent chances with Adie Mings and Charlie Griffin.

"Then we had a sucker punch again just before half-time which was a terrible time to concede. We gave away possession in the middle of the field and then Colin Towler was caught on the back foot and Corbett scored for them.

"I don't think going in 1-0 down at half-time was a fair reflection of the play but we were not tight enough."

He continued: "At the break we just said to them you need to force the play more and maybe miss the midfield out now and again, which we did exceptionally well for the first 20-25 minutes in the second half.

"We were all over them like a rash and created numerous chances. A superb strike from Griffin got us back in the game and then he had a textbook header which hit the bar. What more can you do?

"Weston are a very dogged side with four of five ex-professionals in the side and you know they are going to stick in till the death."

Before yesterday's game at Tiverton, Chippenham were second from bottom in the Dr Marten League Premier Division and with bottom club Bath City winning 2-1 at home to Tiverton on Boxing Day they are only one point from the bottom. But White is confident things are improving.

He said: "The boys were very disappointed with not taking all three points and that is a measure of how far we have progressed in the last six games.

"I am absolutely delighted with the lads' efforts. There are still one or two areas we could be more professional in and we need to be more direct with our approach play.

"In the last eight games we have played we have conceded the first goal and maybe it has become a bit psychological. We have done an awful lot with them in the last six weeks but perhaps now we need to be a bit more direct."

White made a couple of changes to the side on Boxing Day, bringing in Colin Towler and dropping Wayne Thorne, who has been captain in the last couple of weeks, to the bench, and he admitted the changes were purely tactical.

He said: "Gareth Davies was ill and so was unavailable and I just thought it was right and proper to bring Towler back in, who I know is a good defender.

"It was my decision to play Andy Robertson on the left hand side instead of Thorne."
