PEOPLE in Bradford on Avon are being urged once again to have their say on the future of the Kingston Mill development.

Bradford Town Council has prepared a leaflet, which will be available from the Tourist Information Centre, library, town council office and distributed to local shops from today.

It explains the developments in the planning process for the site ahead of a new set of plans promised by developer Taylor Woodrow for the new year.

Mayor Vicky Landell Mills said: "With the leaflet we hope to encourage people to have their say over what happens at Kingston Mill.

"Bradford is full of people who want to get involved but we are aware that there are a lot of others who find the whole issue quite daunting and hopefully the leaflet will encourage them to come forward with their opinions and ideas.

"We also want to clarify what the town council's role is in deciding the future of Kingston Mill."

The town council set up a committee to liaise with Taylor Woodrow in December, after complaints from residents that the mill building was looking more and more dilapidated. Cllr Landell Mills said: "We are fed up with all the waiting. It may be one of many projects Taylor Woodrow have going on all over the country but for us it is our only derelict site in the heart of the town and something has to be done."

Taylor Woodrow bought the site five years ago and withdrew its third set of plans for the former Avon Rubber factory in July.

Cllr Janet Repton said: "People in Bradford obviously care about the site and I have a huge pile of letters from constituents about it already."

West Wiltshire MP Andrew Murrison has written to the developers asking for an update.

Dr Murrison said: "When I have attended meetings with groups in Bradford the Kingston Mill site has always been high on the agenda.

"Things appear to have taken a more positive turn and the developer told me it is prepared to rethink previous plans for the site.

"The thing I have stressed with them is that the plans have to give something for the future of the town.

"I know it is frustrating but I do think it is important to wait for the right set of plans to come along."
