A RIGHT turn at the dangerous junction of Drove Road and Cumberland Road in Swindon is to be banned, the council's cabinet has confirmed.
Cabinet members were informed in an officer's report that "the proposed restrictions will facilitate safer movements at the junction".
Delays would be reduced for northbound traffic.
One resident had written complaining that banning a right turn would increase the use of Upham Road.
On this issue, the officer's report to the cabinet said: "The peak hour traffic flow in Upham Road is 578 vehicles during the morning.
"An expected additional seven vehicles in the peak hour is not considered to be a significant increase in traffic on the road.
"Ward members of Walcot and Central, together with the lead member for transport and environ-mental services have been consulted on the objection and agree with the proposed order."
Surveys found that hardly any traffic turned right from Drove Road into Cumberland Road during the day.
Coun Mavis Childs (Lab, Walcot), who is not a member of the cabinet, attended the meeting to express the worries of residents who did not feel the proposal was sufficient to reduce accidents at the blackspot junction.
