A GARDEN of remembrance is being planned at a Trowbridge school in memory of little Jackie-Danielle Velvick.
The four-year-old died a week after tumbling 20ft out of her brother's first-floor window, leaving the Longfield community in mourning.
Residents living close to Jackie-Danielle's Longfield Road home have started a collection, while staff at Longmeadow Primary School are planning a more permanent feature to remember the little girl, described by classmates as "funny, blonde and caring".
The garden will be located in the playground with a quiet area for pupils to reflect.
Designs are in the early stages but classmates could be involved in having a say on what will feature in the garden.
A book of remembrance is growing by the day, with each of the school's 163-pupils given the chance to pen their own special memories of the reception class pupil.
Mother Cher Velvick, 28, said she was overwhelmed by the idea to make a permanent memorial for her youngest child, who had spent just one term at the school.
"It made my day when I heard what they were planning to do. They told me they wanted to do some sort of garden of remembrance and I think that is amazing considering she was only there one term," she said.
"It is nice to think Jackie-Danielle's memory will go on forever. I don't think she will be forgotten in a long while.
"If anyone didn't like her she would make herself grow on them until they did.
"When we heard it would be a quiet area my mother said something a bit noisy would be more appropriate, although she was a different character at school, very polite."
Jackie-Danielle's elder brothers Jordan, nine, and Brandon, seven, have been settling back into school life following the tragedy just before Christmas.
Miss Velvick said her sons were doing her proud: "The boys have settled back really well and are doing better now than they were before."
l Police are continuing investigations into the theft of a benefits book from Miss Velvick's home while she was by her dying daughter's bedside.
Inquiries are underway at the post office where two cheques were cashed one the day after Jackie-Danielle fell from her brother's bedroom window, the second the day after she lost her battle for life.
Police have two suspects a male and female who they are planning to interview about the crime.
Miss Velvick has been sent a new benefits book and refunded the money stolen from her.
