Ref. 28597-31WHEN Gordon Hunt first met Joyce on holiday in 1939 he never thought he would see her again - let alone spend the rest of his life with her.
But now the couple are celebrating their diamond wedding.
Although Gordon, 82, and Joyce, 79, are both from the Swindon area, they first met on holiday in Weymouth in 1939 just prior to the outbreak of war.
"I used to play her a little ditty on the mouth organ when I saw her walk past," said Gordon, 82.
But romance didn't blossom until they literally bumped into one another in a doorway in Old Town once they had returned home.
They had never expected to see each other again.
"There was a huge thunderstorm and I ran into a doorway to get out of the rain," explained Gordon.
"Little did I know I would run into the lady I had previously met in Weymouth who would later become my wife.
"I never thought I would see her again."
The couple, who now live in Wootton Bassett, married at Christ Church in Old Town 60 years ago
Gordon came out of the RAF, where he worked in flight control, after the war and joined his wife's family floristry business, Clark's, in Devizes Road.
"We worked there every day together," he said. "Not many people can do that."
The couple have three sons Tony, 55, Roger, 52, and Gerry, 49 as well as six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a fourth on the way.
"I sometimes wonder where the 60 years have gone," said Gordon. "There have been some very happy moments.
"Of course, there were moments when things weren't all right but we never go to sleep without a kiss.
"We have given each other so much happiness."
