Ref. 28650-68RUGBY fanatic Martin Popowicz, who has devoted most of his adult life to coaching youngsters, has been honoured by the Mayor of Swindon, Derek Benfield.
Martin, 41, of Stratton, a father of two, was presented with the Sporting Achievement Award in the council chamber at the Civic Office, Euclid Street, Swindon, in front of councillors.
Martin was nominated for the award by his friend Vince Ayris, 41, for his dedication to rugby in Swindon during the past 20 years.
"He has coached on and off for many years now and has encouraged so many kids," said Mr Ayris.
"He is a real credit to the town."
The Mayor told councillors that it was his privilege to make the presentation.
He said Martin was an accomplished player with Swindon Rugby Club but he had derived most satisfaction from coaching others.
"I just love watching the youngsters succeed," said Martin.
His wife, Nikki, 36, and children Marcus, nine, and Lee-Ann, six, were also present to share his moment of public recognition.
