THE Swindon branch of The Body Shop has been singled out for praise after throwing its weight behind a campaign to end domestic violence.

Since the national beauty chain launched its Help Stop Violence in the Home campaign in September scores of mobile phones have been handed in at the Regent Street branch.

The store has now been awarded a certificate.

For each mobile received, Refuge, which helps victims of domestic violence escape their tormentors, receives £2.75.

The Body Shop spokesman Steve McIvor congratulated the Swindon staff and the customers who donated their old phones.

He said: "The Swindon team went that extra mile to tell our customers about the campaign and we were delighted to award them with a certificate for their efforts, which acknowledges their extraordinary contribution to the campaign."

Store manager Jane Gaskill urged people to continue bringing in old mobile phones.

"The team threw themselves wholeheartedly into supporting the campaign and the results have been amazing," she said.

"I would like to make a plea to all local people to check their cupboards and drawers for unwanted mobile phones and bring them to us so that we can continue to raise vital funds for the charity."
