AN experimental Devizes line-up came up trumps as they defeated Westbury 12-0 in a friendly.
Having lost their last two league games, Devizes were also hoping to avenge a league defeat from earlier in the campaign.
And they managed it with tries from Rich Casselden and Mike McCrum.
Despite a malfunctioning unfamiliar three-quarter line, Alex Bennet, at fly-half, brought authority and a safe boot to Devizes'play.
Yet the Saddlebacks were largely confined to their own half by Westbury's barnstorming forwards in the first 40 minutes.
Sound defence and good lineout work by Tim Alchin and Mike Walsh upset the Westbury rhythm though and they stood firm.
Then when Westbury dropped a ball in midfield, flanker Mike McCrum latched on to the loose ball and broke before executing a perfect scissors with winger Casselden, who outpaced the cover to score, Bennett converting.
Although Westbury continued to outplay Devizes in the second half, they were exposed when the pack drove forward and McCrum broke off to score.
