Swindon financial services giant Zurich has launched a road awareness package to help companies establish a comprehensive motor risk management programme for employees who regularly have to drive on company business.
According to the company, its Road Awareness Programme offers a sophisticated on-line driver risk assessment tool, that allows businesses to identify which employees represent the greatest risk and thus tailor specific risk management programmes to meet their individual needs.
Explained Mr Ron Munro, motor manager for Zurich's corporate and government division: "Employers need to take control of managing driver safety by assessing their drivers' awareness and acting on the information.
"By adopting a safe driving-at-work culture, not only can businesses increase staff safety but by reducing the number of accidents and hence the number of claims they make, they will save money in terms of lost contracts, delayed deliveries, damaged produce, staff disruption and in some cases damage to the company's reputation."
The RAP begins with an on-line Individual Driver Risk Assessment which assesses each driver's attitude, mindset and driving environment in relation to where, when and how often they drive.
Firms then receive a report that identifies potential gaps in their drivers' awareness and recommends a combination of training modules to address their individual needs.
Added Mr Munro: "Clearly businesses are worried about the dangers that their employees can face whilst driving on business, but not enough are doing something about it."
The typical cost of completing the programme is less than £50 per driver.
