SWINDON Spitfires enjoyed a successful weekend with their under 12 side and first team scoring 11 goals between them.
On the Saturday, the under 12s progressed to the semi-finals of the Wiltshire League Cup with a comfortable win over local rivals Swindon Badgers. Goals from the prolific duo of Emma Skinner and Lucy Woodward secured the win.
Woodward took her season's tally to 16 with a well-worked goal after six minutes.
Skinner beat the visitors' goalkeeper to a fine through ball from Kat Mabbott. She played the ball out wide to Sammie Smith whose fierce cross was steered home by Woodward.
Badgers rarely threatened Katie New in the Spitfires' goal.
Spitfires made sure of victory 10 minutes from the end when Skinner notched her 20th goal of the season with a low strike from the right.
Spitfires' first team were in league action and travelled to Wales to face Cogan Coronation.
They dominated the game from start to finish but for some resolute defending and goalkeeping from their hosts, could have recorded a dozen goals.
Hayley Huckin's fierce drive in the first minute of the match got the Spitfires on the way and further goals from Zofie Stepien, Mel Bristow, Natalia Wilson, followed by Huckin's second gave the Swindon side a comfortable five-goal lead at half-time. The second half saw a much more balanced performance from the Spitfires and they created a wealth of scoring chances.
Midfielder, Jody Nicholls, who was superb in controlling the game with a succession of good passes, scored a brace before Vicky Taylor added number eight.
Gemma Ferris added the ninth and final goal, converting at the back post from yet another clinical pass from Nicholls.
