CALNE emerged bloody and bruised but victorious 10-5 from a 'friendly' against Pewsey Vale.
The visitors had to dig in early on, Trevor Wicks, Graeme Neale and Mike Robinson puting in some strong tackles to keep Pewsey at bay.
Hooker Mike Pulfrey was then felled by an apparent punch in the first of several skirmishes and had to leave the field.
But Calne grabbed the lead when Andy Donegan converted a penalty from the 10 metre line.
Pewsey responded quickly though by scoring a try, but Calne came out for the second half a different side.
Scrum-half Donegan set up a try with a quick tap and pop pass to No 8 Alan Wicks, whose charge set the platform for left wing Mick McDaid to go over for a try which Donegan converted.
That was the end of the scoring, but another free-for-all punch-up called an early halt to the game.
n CRICKLADE ran out 40-0 winners from their friendly with Malmesbury, who still performed well in the first half.
It was just 14-0 at half-time, Simon Howse and Les Dunford, scoring tries (both made by Matt Henshaw) which were converted by Danny Lloyd.
In the second period, Malmesbury got into the game more, but the home side's better organisation told.
Jason Johnston added a try as did Henshaw, Goodgame and Steve Baldwin.
