PLANS to install traffic lights at Bristol Street in Malmesbury will be decided on at a meeting on Tuesday night.
The road, which leads from the Triangle towards Sherston, has been branded a danger because of its blind bends and narrow sections without pavements.
A committee charged with finding a way of increasing the road's safety decided last May that traffic lights were the best way to reduce traffic speed on the road after a survey revealed 45 per cent of residents favoured the scheme.
But after that decision had been made protesters against the scheme became increasing vocal and said traffic lights would increase delays, noise and exhaust pollution.
Another survey conducted later last year then revealed a majority against the proposals.
The Bristol Street working group will meet on Tuesday in the town hall at 7pm to decide whether to proceed with the traffic light plans.
The cost of the scheme is expected to be approximately £50,000, paid for by Wiltshire County Council.
