CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: CHRISTIAN Malford put up brave fight before going down to Holt in Division Two of the Vanitec Computers sponsored Chippenham Sunday League
They had goalkeeper Ben Munns sent off, but twice led, at 1-0 and 3-2, before Holt ran out 5-3 victors.
Ian Ramsey fired Malford ahead before Tom Pang struck twice to give Holt the lead. Shaun House and Chris Pitman put Malford 3-2 to the good only for Tom Pang to make it 3-3.
Holt took the lead when Tyler Pang stole the limelight from his older brother by chipping Malford's keeper from 40 yards. It was left to Pang senior to complete the scoring with his fourth goal of the game and his 28th of the season.
North Star A remain second after a 6-0 win over bottom of the table Roadrunners FC. Mark Sharrett and Dale Smith netted two each, with Ronnie Kallmeier and Rob Smith completing the half dozen for the Calne based team who are unbeaten in their 13 games.
Both Somerford FC and Biddestone Arms were attack minded as they went in search of two points that would ease their relegation worries and it was Biddestone who emerged triumphant in a tense 5-3 win.
Defences were on top for the first 20 minutes but Biddestone drew first blood after 22 minutes when Lee Scutter stooped to head home a Dean Fry free kick.
Biddestone had to wait until the second period before adding a second goal from Dean Fry. Somerford were given hope of hope of getting back into the game after 60 minutes following an uncharacteristic error by Biddestone goalkeeper Kevin Challice. He kicked the ball straight to Richard Chandler who ran on and finished well.
It was not long before Biddestone regained their two goal cushion when Kevin Woolford somehow directed a really deep corner into the back of the net to make it 3-1.
In this topsy-turvy game Somerford were awarded a penalty after Chris Yeo was adjudged to have been fouled but Chandler fired the spot kick straight over the bar. He soon made amends for his penalty miss when he struck an excellent free kick which gave Biddestone keeper Challice no chance.
With the game well-balanced Woolford added his second with a relatively easy tap into make it 4 - 2.
Somerford were then awarded a second penalty which this time Chris Yeo finished well. Lee Scutter then wrapped the game up for Biddestone when he scored a fine solo goal.
Premier Division
SHERSTON Town maintained their lead with a 3-1 defeat over Terry's FC, in an enthralling and at times bruising encounter.
Richard Lester, Ed Wilkins and Andy Wicks scored for Sherston, who had Lee Bevis sent off for violent conduct.
West Lavington moved up to third after convincingly beating bottom club Calne Town 7-1. Simon Drewitt led Lavington's scoring with four and Michael O'Donnell, Mark Roberts and Darren Thorpe added the others for the villagers who are eight points adrift of the runaway leaders Sherston but are in with a good chance of being among the teams chasing the runners-up spot.
Westbury Rangers A boosted their hopes of finishing second with a 2-0 win away at Hullavington.
After four games without a win Box Rovers' season looked all but over, but a 3-0 triumph over All Cannings has given them the chance to push for second place.
In their game with Cannings both goalkeepers were outstanding, with Cannings' Mark Colton limiting the goals against to just three, while Rovers' Kelvin Colbourne kept a clean sheet. Tom Smith (2) and Tim Jefferies were Rovers' scorers.
Illness forced The Duke Corsham to postpone their game with the Dog and Fox Ashley as a number of their players were out with flu.
Division One
BIDDESTONE Social opened up a seven point gap on second placed Maud Heath Sports following their narrow 1-0 victory over a battling Chippenham Police outfit.
John O'Meara netted the only goal of the game after eight minutes when he turned home a Paul Poiner cross.
Chippenham Sports and Social Club and Semington Rovers were involved in a six-goal goal thriller which ended up with the spoils being shared after a 3-3 stalemate.
The Sports led on three occasions but each time after they went to the front Rovers' reply was almost immediate. Darren Whiston's opener was erased by Stuart Barber who was on the end of an excellent team move.
James Pope restored the Sports' lead with a sublime finish only for Stuart Roach to level matters once more. With time running out another amazing goal from Pope looked to have earned the Sports a thrilling win, but within seconds of the restart Kelvin Lockwood and Stuart Barber swapped passes which resulted in Barber's awesome strike from 30 yards earning Rovers a point from their first game since early December.
Atworth United staged a remarkable fight back to share a 4-4 draw with The George Lacock. Atworth, who should have been in front by a country mile at the break, led only 1-0 courtesy of their groundsman Glenn Young who gave them the lead after seven minutes.
The George stormed back in the second period and with only seven minutes remaining they were leading as a hat-trick from Martin Symcox plus a solo from Tim Culling had put them 4-1 to the good.
The George then surrendered their three goal cushion as Atworth hit back with a brace from Mike Hopkins which set up a exciting finish and when Gary Smith poked home the equaliser justice was done as Atworth had claimed a draw which they thoroughly deserved.
Division Three
THIRD place Hare and Hounds took their game against struggling Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club too lightly and they paid the price as the Town picked up their first win in seven attempts.
James Harman's 25 yarder gave the Town a half-time lead but when Leigh Wells tied the scores it looked as if the Hounds were going to stretch their unbeaten run to eight games.
With only seconds remaining Andy Pickernell applied a telling touch to Gavin Target's corner to allow the Town to celebrate their first win since the middle of October.
For a second week running Old Lane United allowed a lead to slip through their hands. Leading Potterne 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Luke Stoneham, United were undone by a Ben Giles equaliser which saw the final result finish 1-1.
Sir Audley's Arms left Melksham with two vital points as they claimed their first win in five matches as they came from 2-1 down to defeat Pig and Whistle 3-2.
Steve Mallard's 20 yard opener for the Arms was wiped out by goals from Leigh Stevenson and Steve Robinson as United went in front. Kieron Smith levelled before half time and Steve Shipway's half volley from two yards out in the 75th minutes made the game safe for the Arms.
Two goals apiece from Servet Aslan and Gordon Willshire along with a single from Warren Jones was good enough for Corsham Park Rangers to see off the challenge of Bradstone Rovers who, despite late consolations from Scott Wood and Alan Eades, lost 5-2.
Division Four
KINGS Arms reclaimed top spot after a hard fought 2-1 victory over a stubborn Fascia Graphics side. Mark Smith scored for the losers.
After taking a point off promotion chasing King Arms in their last game of 2003, North Star B dented the hopes another top of the table side in their first outing in 2004.
The Calne based team matched everything previous leaders Virgin Mobile could throw at them and in the end were worthy of a point from their 1-1 draw from a scrappy affair. Ashley Lawrence scored for Star.
Chris Sims headed White Horse FC into a 10th minute lead against third placed FC Bradford but Bradford hit back to win 5-1.
Bottom of the table Plough, with only one win in their previous 14 games, which came on the opening day of the season way back in August, turned the form book on its head as they defeated Old Road Tavern 2-1. Andy Crayford netted the Tavern's consolation.
Bear Casuals recovered from going behind to an early Jamie Mullins goal for Rowde as they hit back to claim a 3-1 victory.
Pack Horse Rangers gained revenge over KSM for their earlier 5-1 defeat as they claimed a 5-1 win of their own Shahram Hematti set them on their way and by half-time they led 4-0 as Chris Ferris hit a double, his second a rocket from 25 yards, and Simon Reid crashed home a free kick.
KSM pulled one back when Dale Llewellyn put through his own net before Reid wrapped up the scoring with his second of the game.
