FORMER Swindon Town striker Alan Young scored on his debut for Supermarine in their 3-1 victory against Clevedon Town last night.
Despite new man Young grabbing a goal it was the old head Dave Toomey who ensured Marine clinched their first victory in seven games with two second-half goals.
Marine found themselves a goal in front just after 25 minutes Young on hand to head home a Chris Copp corner after earlier being denied by a fine save from Clevedon keeper Peter Trego.
However, Marine's lead was somewhat short-lived as Clevedon equalised just minutes later from a controversial penalty.
Simon Futcher looked to have brought down Clevedon's Chris Bale on the edge of the box but, after lengthily consideration from referee Alfonzo Field, Clevedon were awarded the penalty despite the protests of the Marine players.
Arthur Appleton dispatched the spot-kick to draw the scores level.
Marine regained the lead just eight minutes after the interval Dave Toomey's run brought to a premature end inside the box by Clevedon's Danny Bryant.
Toomey kept his cool to score the resulting penalty.
Toomey then wrapped things up with 10 minutes to go. Simon Futcher's delightful 25-yard strike cannoned back off the bar and Toomey was on hand to slide the ball into the back of the empty net.
Marine boss Tommy Saunders was delighted with the display, saying: "I'm very pleased with how the lads played. They have done well to bounce back from Saturday's embarrassment and have put in a convincing performance."
Also making their debut last night for Marine was Glen Armstrong and Andy Coombs, having signed from Calne and Devizes respectively.
Marine: King, Copp, Futcher, Bennett, Coombs, Blastland, Edwards, Slattery, Young, Toomey, Cater. Subs: McCluskey, Gill, Gilewicz, Miller, Armstrong.
Alan Young was also joined by debutants Andy Coombs and Glen Armstrong. Armstrong appeared as a second half substitute in last nights game after signing from Screwfix side Calne Town. Coombs who signed from Devizes also impressed in Marines backline.
