Ref. 28592-36CHILDMINDERS wanting to brush up on their first aid skills are invited to enrol on a new course.
St John Ambulance is to run a series of flexible lessons called Early Years next month for people who work with children.
The 12-hour course, which can either be completed across two Saturdays on February 7 and 14, or in two-hour sessions during the week, will teach people how to deal with a range of medical emergencies from minor scratches to life-threatening fits and choking.
Steve Connock, who is organising the course, which will be held at the St John Training Centre in Rodbourne Road, Swindon, said it is vital people have an up-to-date knowledge of first aid.
He said: "Adults can tell you what's wrong, but children can't so it's extremely important that people working with children possess the skills to recognise ailments quickly before it gets to the serious stage."
At the end of the course a certificate recognised by the National Childminders' Association will be issued.
Parents are also welcome to enrol.
