A NEW £240,000 extension has changed the face of a primary school near Chippenham. Building work at Langley Fitzurse Primary School started in June and the finishing touches are being put to its new hall, entrance foyer, offices, storeroom and kitchen.
Governor Nick Elkins was the architect behind the project in Kington Langley, which was funded with the help of parents and the local community.
Headteacher Lynn Evans said: "The old school hall was not big enough for key stage two gymnastics. Now we have a new hall and the old one is being used as a classroom.
Assemblies were being held in a nearby church and chapel but, from last week, children started enjoying the comfort of their new hall.
To mark the opening children nominated Mr Elkins and cook Cheryl Pocock for headteacher's awards.
"The kitchen isn't finished so our cook has been cooking off site and bringing in the food," said Mrs Evans.
Plans are afoot for more changes, including transforming old offices into teaching spaces.
