THERE are celebrations all round at Stonar School this week. The school in Atworth, near Melksham has received news that one of its pupils has been accepted at Oxford and the work of other students has pushed the school to a high place in the Government's value added league tables.
Sixth form student Katie Seymour has been offered a place at Balliol College in September to read physiological sciences.
Katie, who has just gone to New Zealand to spend six months assisting in a school said she could not believe it when she got the letter informing her she had been accepted.
Headteacher Clare Osborn is also very proud of the youngster's achievements.
She said: "Katie is a very hard working student, who really deserves to do well."
The all-girl school has not only been placed in the top 10 nationally for independent schools in the new value added tables, but was also placed joint 38th nationally and joint top in the county.
Mrs Osborn said: "Girls at Stonar are well focused on their examinations but also find time for extra activities including music, sport, photography, dance and a new venture of willow sculpting.
