WILTS SENIOR CUP: TWO goals in the last two minutes spared Westbury's blushes on Saturday as they staggered their way into the quarter final of the Wiltshire Senior Cup against their lower league opponents.
Hampshire League Amesbury, who played the last 35 minutes of the match with 10 men after the sending off of goalkeeper Dean Hutchings for violent conduct, were just two minutes away from carrying out a famous victory when Toby Colbourne and Steve Seals struck within a minute of each other to win the tie.
Westbury's Dean Wheeler had earlier cancelled out Lee Cunningham's opener but on 71 minutes Neil Sole regained the lead that they looked likely to hold on to until the final moments of the match.
Westbury manager Derek Graham said: "We were absolutely awful, although having said that we had a lot of chances and should have won the game by four or five.
"Injuries had put us down to the bare bones which meant we had a few players playing out of position, particularly at the back, and we were at sixes and sevens back there."
Cunningham gave the hosts the lead on eight minutes as he took advantage of some slack defending to slot the ball home after some good work by Andy Parnaby and Gareth Horner.
Paul Beavers, making his second start for Westbury in place of the injured Jerad O'Pray, arrived unmarked on the end of Matt Burton's 15th minute free kick but his header was straight at Hutchings.
A few minutes later Dean Wheeler's effort was cleared off the line by Kevin Nicholls as Westbury piled on the pressure.
A tactical change by United saw Tom Evans drop into defence and Dean Wheeler switched to the left.
The move paid immediate dividends as Wheeler latched onto a Nick Beales' chip into the area to fire the ball past Hutchings for the equaliser.
United should have taken the lead before half time but further chances went begging for Wayne Wheeler and Colbourne.
It took a moment of madness from Hutchings to liven up proceeding after the break as he was dismissed for kicking out at Wayne Wheeler.
Reserve keeper Danny Harrison was brought on for Amesbury and on 71 minutes the Hampshire league side stunned the visitors by regaining the lead.
Steve Reeves picked out Sole at the back post and his header flew into the net via the near post.
United then went for broke in search of an equaliser.
Beavers fired over with eight minutes remaining before the same player outpaced the Amesbury defence on 89 minutes and crossed the ball into the box where Colbourne arrived unmarked to strike the equaliser past Harrison.
With extra time looming, Beavers again caused panic in the home defence allowing Seals to stoop low to bravely head home a last gasp winner.
Westbury will entertain Shrewton in the quarter finals on February 14.
