Raiders broke into the Hair Garden in Castle Street in the early hours of Thursday morning, taking petty cash and a £70 pair of specialist Thermo hair- straightening irons.
PC Shaun Thomas, who is leading the inquiry, said shop owners should not take the risk of leaving cash on their premises unattended.
He said: "We are advising shopkeepers in Trowbridge town centre to recheck their security when they close up at night and report to police immediately any suspicious persons or damage spotted to shop premises.
"These people in particular are particularly after petty cash and till floats and we would ask shop owners to consider removing petty cash from their premises at night."
