JULY 12: SWINDON Cares week kicks off today seeing the start of a fundraising drive to amass £10,000 for three local charities.
People around the town have come up with fun ways to raise money for the NSPCC, Age Concern and the Swindon Cancer Appeal for Macmillan nurses.
Alfie the Adver Alligator will be joining radio presenters Howard Taylor and Heidi Humphries at the launch event at the Asda Walmart store in Haydon Wick tomorrow.
Everyone is urged to join them from midday to find out how to support the initiative.
The GWR FM morning crew will be selling cuddly bears to raise money for Swindon Cares. And Howard and Heidi have promised to present their breakfast show in the nude if they sell 1,000 of the GWR FM Community Trust bears Charleys.
Howard said: "Show Swindon cares by buying a bear. And if all the bears go, then we go bare."
Heidi said: "I was on holiday when Howard came up with the idea but it is for a good cause."
Swindon Cares is supported by Nationwide, Zurich, GWR Community Trust, the Rotary Club of Swindon, Swindon Council, the Swindon Chamber of Commerce and the Evening Advertiser.
