A MAN is in hospital after being involved in a road accident on Saturday night.
Ian Williams, 23, of Shaw, West Swindon, was walking along Great Western Way between the Blagrove and Mannington roundabouts when he was struck by a Toyota campervan around 11.45pm.
He was taken to Great Western Hospital with serious head injuries. Yesterday his condition was described as stable but the Great Western Hospital refused to release details of his condition this morning.
The two male passengers of the Toyota, who are both from the Swindon area, were also taken to hospital, suffering from minor head injuries. The driver was not injured.
PC Steve Love of Swindon police said: "It appears that Mr Williams had been out drinking in the town centre celebrating a friend's birthday. We do not know as yet exactly what happened."
Anyone who witnessed the accident or who spotted the victim on the carriageway previous to the incident is asked to contact PC Andrew Stanley at the traffic department on 01793 528111.
n Motorists are being advised to take extra care on the roads this week as the big freeze drifts south. Snow and thick ice is expected over the next few days as temperatures plummet. The AA reminds people that stopping distances are 10 times longer in these conditions.
