RISING star James Constable inspired Chippenham Town to their first home win in the Premier Division this season.

The 19-year-old scored, won a penalty and generally tormented 10-man Havant & Waterlooville as the Bluebirds ran out 3-0 winners at Hardenhuish Park.

Havant will feel hard done by, as a number of decisions went against them.

But Town fans will argue it's about time that Lady Luck smiled on them this year.

The visitors had a seemingly valid first-half goal ruled out and a man sent off before the break.

Both decisions were pivotal as Havant had enjoyed the better of the first 45 minutes.

James Taylor saw his early header from Brett Poate's free-kick blocked by Chippenham keeper Mark Hervin and the Town glovesmith produced an even better stop to palm Dean Blake's rasping drive over the bar.

Ellis Wilmot came closest to scoring at the other end with a volley that dipped just over.

The visitors thought they had broken the deadlock on 21 minutes when Tom Gould headed Poate's corner past Hervin, but the 'goal' was harshly ruled out for a push.

Havant were on the wrong end of another key decision eight minutes before the break when Constable prevented former Chippenham youngster Alec Masson from gaining yardage from a throw-in.

Masson duly threw the ball at Constable, with the former seeing red and the latter a yellow card.

Steve White's team made their numerical advantage count in style after the break.

Simon Charity netted his first of the campaign two minutes after the restart, shooting low across the body of keeper Andy Poyser from the edge of the box.

The Bluebirds doubled their lead four minutes later with Constable stabbing home Gould's headed attempt at goal from a Scott Walker corner.

Mark Badman twice went close to extending the lead as Chippenham dominated for the most part.

David Town and Taylor both tested Hervin as Havant staged a late rally, but Martin Paul made sure of the three points from the spot.

Constable was chopped down by Jim Rodwell when through on goal and substitute Paul scored the penalty, after missing from the spot against Tiverton last Tuesday.

The victory was Town's first at home in the league since a 4-0 win over Welling in April and manager White was pleased to end the drought as he strives to guide his rejuvenated troops to a place in the new Conference division.

He said: "We don't have to concern ourselves with that no win at home thing anymore. The pressure is off.

"A number of the clubs above us seem to be panicking too.

"Many of them have spent large sums of money to get into the Conference Two and as we are approaching the 30-game mark they are getting nervous.

"But there is no massive pressure on us and we are making great strides."
