LAW abiding citizens in Penhill are trying to fight back to stop yobs making their lives a misery. But they are not reacting with vigilante tactics, but demanding the authorities take action to ensure their neighbourhood is a pleasant place to live.
To do this they are installing their own surveillance cameras to prove the identity of the hooligans who are running wild. Then armed with the facts, they will present the evidence to the police and Swindon Council and demand the perpetrators are stopped through the criminal or civil courts.
Neighbours have already got together and formed a community association, which in all but name is a crime fighting force.
They are sick to the teeth of violent behaviour and attacks on their cars and other property.
The police are always appealing to the public to help them beat crime and Swindon Council asks victims of bad behaviour to ring the Anti-Social Behaviour hotline so they can bring out orders against the trouble-makers.
The council must use their powers to invoke orders and the police must follow-up any breaches of the orders with criminal proceedings.
These residents should be able to live without the fear of violence and having their property damaged by these thugs.
