Landlords in Swindon can take advantage of grants to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.
WarmLet is a scheme being piloted by Swindon Council whereby money is given to private landlords with properties in Swindon Borough and Kennet District Council areas.
Southern Electric is funding the grants. The grants cover a variety of insulation measures, including cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, hot water tank jackets, draught proofing and low energy light bulbs.
If a tenant is on income-related or disability benefit grants may be 100 per cent, or 50 per cent if no tenants are in receipt of benefits.
The scheme applies to houses, bedsits and flats with both single and multiple tenancies.
Energy efficiency will lower maintenance costs as a result of reduced condensation and damp and make it cheaper for landlords and tenants to heat their properties.
There are currently a number of Government proposals that will require landlords to make their properties thermally efficient.
