Ref. 28784-19CLOSE-FOUGHT battles were the highlight of quarter-final matches in the Advertiser Cup.

Barron Heating from Division One turned in one of the best performances when they held Premier Division County Ground to a 2-2 draw after extra time.

Scorers for County Ground were Mitch Coleman and Jason Daily, with Barron's goals from Jo Jenkins and Johnny Mule.

In a thrilling game between County Ground Reserves and Windmill, Windmill went through to the next round with a 3-2 victory, but didn't have it all their own way.

A battling County Ground fought all the way, and had a goal disallowed near the end.

Windmill scorers were Ricky Mazzotta (2) and Dean Parsons. County Ground's scorers were Pete Cannon and Mark Smith.

Another Division One side, Southbrook, took on Westwood from the Premier Division. Another competitive game finished 2-2 at the end of normal time, and 3-3 at the end of extra time.

Westwood's scorers were Eddie Gordon (2) and Phil King.

Division One outfit Westlecott put up a brave fight against Premier Queensfield.

Westlecott took the lead thanks to a goal from Steve White, but a defiant Queensfield levelled to take the game to extra time, where Queensfield secured a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Liam Gooch and Tony Smith.

In the quarter-finals of the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup, Bulldog took on Woolworths Reserves and won 4-0, thanks to goals from Ritchie Martin (2), Steve Holland and Chris Allen.

Trax beat Shrivenham 3-1, with Tony Fry (2) and Mel McKeown scoring. Adam Webb replied for Shrivenham.

Wroughton beat SPM 3-0, with Jamie Cowley netting with a 40-yarder. Tom Steptoe and an own goal from Graham Dancer completed the scoring.

Lower Stratton put up a brave fight with Division 2 leaders Manor before going down 3-1.

Steven Hendry, Steve Kelly and Vince Goodwin scored for the winners, with Mark Laurence replying for the unfortunate losers.

Premier Division

Only two games were played. Leaders Zurich beat Wheatsheaf 4-0, thanks to goals from Vince Merridith (2), Craig Alexander and Richard Jones.

Queenstown beat Ridgeway 4-3, with Rene Jepson, Derrick Holmes and Sean Smith (2) on target for the winners.

Division 1

MATCH of the day was the battle between Leap and Woolworths.

The Leap went 1-0 up with a goal from Dennis King, only for Woolworths to equalise and then go ahead from a free kick.

Woollies scored again in the second half, only for the Leap to come storming back to win 6-3. Leap scorers were Paul Venables (2), Dennis King (2), Tony Baldwin and Chris Henly.

Blyskawica edged out Spectrum 6-3. Ritchie Baker (4), Dominic Rosato and Giovanni Gizzi scored for the winners.

Division 2

Regent beat Gangsters 8-4 in an impressive game, Ross Kemp (3), Richard Plumb (2), Leon Jackson, Tony Sardo, and Chris Woloszynski all scoring.

Walcot OB beat New Town 4-2 thanks to goals from Lee Daily, Callum Wollen and Graham Stovell.

Ramsbury went down 2-1 to Westwood, whose scorers were Steve Montgomery and Ritchie Neil. Nick Woodward was on target for Ramsbury.
