THE book that is fast putting Swindon back on the literary map has scooped another award.
Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time has already won the Whitbread Novel Award and is favourite to win this year's overall Whitbread book prize. Now it has been named as the South Bank Show Awards' book of the year. The awards are connected to the culture television programme and have been running for eight years.
Oxford author Mark Haddon's novel tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher, who sets out to investigate the murder of a neighbour's poodle. Christopher is thought to have Asperger's syndrome, a form of autism, although this is never made fully clear.
It has topped the best-seller list and has sold more than 150,000 copies so far.
It is set in Swindon and refers to many well-known Swindon landmarks such as the magic roundabout and the railway station. Mr Haddon has been booked for this year's Swindon literature festival in May.
