A fascinating exhibition depicting the history of Old Sarum opens this Saturday at Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum in The Close.
English Heritage artist Peter Dunn has produced a series of 25 paintings that will be used as the basis for new interpretation panels on site in April. The paintings show the history of Old Sarum from its earliest origins, 3000 BC to the early 1900s, and also the artist's process from preliminary pencil sketches to finely detailed, finished watercolours.
Artist Peter Dunn says: "It's been amazing working on this two year project, as I live close to Old Sarum. I did the original illustrations for the guide book 10 years ago and it's been fascinating to see how much more information is available about the site that has enabled me to gain a new vision of what it was like to be there throughout the ages."
Old Sarum - castle, cathedral and 5,000 years of history, opens on Saturday and runs until April 24. This Saturday, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist and discuss his work with him from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm in the gallery. He will also be at the museum on Saturday, March 6.
