A HIKE in insurance is threatening many small firms, according to Sir John Egan, president of the BBI employers' organisation.

Speaking at the 10th annual lecture to the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers, he expressed his concern over rising costs of employers' liability insurance, where cover was compulsory.

He said: "If these issues are not properly dealt with, they could create substantial risks for all businesses risks that could adversely affect any organisation's ability to maximise stakeholder value and achieve its business objectives."

He pointed the finger at the current trend for 'no win, no fee' claims.
