THE Danny Bohane Memorial match attracted 90 anglers to the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal on Sunday and these anglers raised £312 for the Prospect Foundation.

Overnight frost didn't help the generally poor weights but on paper the match looked better than it actually was.

A raider from Essex county, Ian Didcote, topped the weights with a 22-8-0 bream catch taken not far from the Barge Inn at Seend. He took home nearly £250 for his trouble.

Local anglers however, took the next four places with Swindon Tribes' Ray Russell making full use of a favourite draw in the Wides section with his 10-8-8 taking second ahead of Devizes AC angler Colin Ayton 9-2-0.

Marlborough's match secretary Nigel Franks, now fishing for Devizes AC, was fourth with 8-7-0 and fifth was Talisman's Paul Senior 7-12-0.

n Sections: 1-10, M Pearce 4-11-0; 11-20, Adam Westlecott 6-6-8; 21-30, Chris Telling 2-8-8; 31-40, Gary Davis 5-5-0; 41-50, J Warren 6-2-0; 51-60, Karl Dicks 7-3-0; 61-70, Kevin Bamford 5-11-0; 71-80, H Adams 4-5-0; 81-90, John Bohane 6-10-0.

A big thank you was given to the organiser of the match, Lambourn's butcher Neil Richards and Devizes AC for donating their waters for the event.

Cliff Brown is celebrating two wins in a week. He started it all with a win in the 16-peg Wednesday Club match at Peatmoor where he took a cracking 19-10-8 of bream and roach.

Pete Sole took second with another good weight of 13-12-0 followed closely by Alan Scully 12-13-8.

Sections: A, Peter Gilbert 6-11-8; B, Ricky Spiteri 9-6-0; C, Alan Clarke 7-11-0.

Cliff's brother Fred took the best fish of the match a specimen Crucian carp of 3-2-0. Cliff completed his double after the BCAs match on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Lower Dunmill effected by the sharp overnight frost.

He took a 5-9-0 mixed bag to beat Mick Robins 4lb, Dereck Hillier 3-11-0 and there was a joint fourth between Bert Page and Sid Webb 3-4-0.

Wednesday Veteran's match at Bourton on the Water: 1, Dereck Hillier 26lb; 2, Bomber Sainsbury 25lb and 3, Cliff Brown 24-8-0.

There was a very tight finish for the honours in Highworth's AC's Senior Aggregate with Terry Winter becoming the champion with 175pts just ahead of Brian Holness on 173pts and John Major on third with 144pts.
