A CLUB for women with top jobs in business and the professions is inviting people to try out some unconventional health and beauty therapies free of charge.
Swindon Soroptimists, the female equivalent of men's Rotary clubs, is organising a health and well being fair at Stratton St Margaret Community Centre on Sunday, February 8, at which 30 fringe practitioners will demonstrate their skills and offer 15 minute taster sessions.
It will include stands devoted to osteopathy, homeopathy, reiki and reflexology, hypnotherapy, Indian head massage, and amatsu, shiatsu, feng shui and other Chinese therapies.
There will also be stalls offering aloe vera beauty treatments and products, allergy testing, information about cosmetic dentistry and advice on how to lose weight and quit smoking.
A sports injury therapist will also be there.
"I decided to make health and well being the theme for my year of office," said president Jan Messenger, who runs a business that designs and supplies embroidered logos for work, leisure and school wear.
"There's a growing interest in fringe and complementary therapies and we thought it would be a good idea to help people find out what treatments are out there.
"The response has been so good that all 30 stands were soon booked and we've had calls from at least eight therapists asking us to let them know if there were any cancellations."
The fair will run from 10am until 4pm and will be opened by South Swindon MP Julia Drown.
