Once again we read actual residents and businesses state, clearly, that parking in Old Town is a problem only to be met with a pantomime style 'Oh no it isn't' from our illustrious councillors. (EA, Tuesday January 13 'No car parking room at the inn')

This brings to mind two questions:

1. Why would people say something was a problem and provide evidence to back up their complaint if it wasn't true?

2. Who, exactly, do our councillors feel they are helping in the community that elected them, because it's certainly not the average council tax payer?

Then we have contradictory statements from your report that literally beggar belief:

"Old Town and Lawn councillors Mike Bawden and Wendy Johnson deny parking is a big problem in the area.

"Although parking in the evenings might be a problem."

Do these people even stop to think about what they're saying before they say it? When do most residents want to park their vehicles? In the evening. How reassuring it is to hear that councillors feel that there might only be problems at this time of the day.

And then we have Councillor Johnson admitting that the council have sold off legal car parking spaces to generate revenue but at the same time: 'There are no excuses for parking illegally, it is a hazard and should be penalised.'

I'm sorry, but if the council don't provide enough legal car parking spaces then there very much is an excuse for illegal parking it's known as 'having no choice.'
