Janine Trevett (right), the new landlady at The Pembroke Arms, with bar manager Monica Michie. DA4787P2 THE owners of the Pembroke Arms, in Fovant, have again sought to reassure villagers that it will be reopening soon, by introducing its new landlady.
Tony and Eileen Crooks said they were having a new carvery installed and the cellar extended before Janine Trevett takes over on February 7.
The statement followed the pub's sudden closure on January 7 and the sacking of manager and joint licensee Tony Weston.
Last week, the Journal reported that more than 40 people turned out on a cold Saturday morning to show support for Mr Weston, a retired police officer and experienced landlord.
They included members of the darts and cribbage teams and quiz league, who met regularly at the pub, which is the headquarters of the Fovant Badges Society and houses a World War I museum.
They said Mr Weston and his staff had built up the business and had been unfairly treated.
Mrs Trevett said she wanted to assure villagers that the pub would reopen and that everyone would be welcome there.
She said she had interviewed the existing staff and four had decided to stay.
"I am hoping to recruit more people.
"I fully appreciate what has happened and want the support of the village - we are not pushing the village people out at all," she said.
"My door is open and people are welcome to come and chat to me or give me a ring."
