A THREE POUND, 6oz roach, one of a brace of three pounders caught from the Avon at Ibsley just over a fortnight ago, has been landed again.

The huge roach was caught on Friday from the same swim just above the bridge at Ibsley.

Proprietor of the Avon Ang-ling Centre in Ringwood, Andy Browne, said he had photographs of the brace and one of the specimen caught on Friday.

He told Rod & Line: "The distinct markings show that it is definitely the same fish."

The arrival of the cold weather made conditions difficult further upstream on the Avon on Sunday when Salisbury AC Club held an inter club match with Kennet Ospreys.

The weather was disappointing for the competitors, but even more upsetting was the loss of a 2lb-plus roach at the net by one of the anglers.

It was a good turn-out with 32 anglers and one junior competing in arctic conditions and considering the weather, weights were quite good.

Sean Franks won with 12lb of chub and grayling and Frank Gumbleton was runner-up with 9lb 12oz. In third place was Tom Baker with 8lb 12oz.

On Saturday there was a match at Witherington Farm Fishery on Sellwood and Cottage lakes.

Steve Blowers fished Sellwood and took a winning weight of 60lb with Paul Barnard in second spot with 43lb from Cottage Lake.

Angler Don Farthing used a float-fished trout to tempt the week's biggest pike from Abbots Lake at Waldens Farm Fishery. It weighed 17lb 10oz.

Carp are taking float-fished worm in Bishops Lake while perch, skimmers, rudd and chub are taking well from Monks Lake. Plenty of carp and chub from Popes Lake while anglers on Deacons Lake have been banking bags around 20lb.

Sunday's match was won by Mark Cannings with 29lb 8oz, Dave Parvin was second with 21lb 14oz and Alan Turner was third with 20lb.

Mike Locke is the new chairman of Salisbury AC. Mr Locke, an active fly fishing angler, a member of the Flyfishing Guild and the Grayling Society, takes over from long-serving chairman Alex Amos who has agreed to remain on the committee.

Mr Locke is a former committee member. His appointment was one of the highlights of last week's annual meeting. One other piece of news of interest to all members is that there is to be small rise in subscriptions, full details of which will be advertised in the near future.
