CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: WESTBURY Rangers A continue to have one of their best ever seasons in the 6-0 roasting of All Cannings FC allowed them to maintain their push for silverware.
Cannings were only 1-0 down at the break and at that stage they were in with a shout of getting themselves back into the game but the inexplicably fell apart in the second half which allowed Rangers to cash in and boost their goals for column. Paul Beavers set them on their way with substitute Matthew Gardiner, Paul Smith, Pete Ayton and Marc Lanfear finishing the scoring with 2.
The Duke Corsham clung onto second spot at the expense of Bradford News who suffered a third straight loss when going down 3-2.
Chris Andrews reacted quickest when Chris Jones' shot was spilled by the Bradford keeper. Russell Francis levelled from the penalty spot before Jamie Rowe sent a loping header home to give the advantage back to the Duke.
A misunderstanding in the Duke's defence allowed Francis to pull the Newsmen on equal terms once again. Luke Chapman rose majestically to head home the Duke's winner from a Neil Shardlow free kick.
Calne Town (Sunday) were just 60 seconds away from claiming their first victory of the season against Hullavington. Pete Humphrey and Ian Wilkinson had twice put Calne in front only for first goals of the season from Michael Hunt and Martin Beach to bring the villagers level at 2-2, the latter's coming at the death after Hullavington were reduced to ten men when Richard Fortune was dismissed for the first time in 14 years of football.
Division One
LEADERS Biddestone Social suffered a shock defeat away at The George Lacock who deserved their 5-4 win.
Dan Smith gave Lacock the perfect start after just ten minutes, which was cancelled midway through the half when Matt Pratley leveled. Biddestone regained the lead through Steve Healy who fired home from 18 yards. Lacock were level before the interval courtesy of Tim Culling.
The second period saw Lacock storm 5-2 in front thanks to goals from Martin Symcox, Andy Joad and Lee Carpenter and despite Pratley (pen) and Steve Healy scoring to drag Biddestone back into the game.
Maud Heath Sports returned from Colerne with a 2-0 win to maintain their push for promotion. Dean Slade scored twice.
Chippenham Sports & Social Club and Trowbridge Harriers drew 2-2 with the Sports owing their point to a fantastic display from keeper Graham Jones. A twice taken penalty from Darren Whiston saw Chippenham take the lead on ten minutes. Harriers were level two minutes later through Alistair Stokes.
James Pope scrambled home Chippenham's equaliser after John Baker put the Harriers ahead.
Tom Crawford scored for The Horse & Groom andAtworth United, but his own goal had little bearing as the Horse cantered to a 7-2 win. Mike Hopkins was Atworth's other scorer while Paul Daly (3), Graham Hunter (2) and Paul Daly made up the Horse's tally.
Work commitments forced Chippenham Police to postpone their crunch relegation game against bottom of the table West End Wanderers.
Division Two
CORSHAM Centre and North Star A go into this Sunday's meeting between the top two sides in the division two on the back of impressive victories.
Corsham Centre were the highest scorers of the day after hitting 12 past Sutton Benger. Liam Fullam led the rout with four.
Luke Denham and Jack Nicholas chipped in with two each with Kevin Brown, Simon Gray, Liam Ralph and James Lye completing the dozen.
North Star A inflicted North Bradley with a second 5-1 loss in as many weeks. Star's Simon Gardner, Nick Fielding, Dale Smith, Mark Sharrett and Mark Forester (pen) shared the goals. Martin Belbin was Bradley's sole hitman.
Tom Pang was in prolific form as he hit four of Holt's seven goals in a 7-0 win over Somerford. Roy Sikdar, Damian Hateley and Neil Grant were also among the goals.
Roadrunners FC picked up their first points of the season after sharing a 5-5 draw with Biddestone Arms.
Roadrunners were left hard done by when the referee awarded a controversial penalty after a hand ball decision went against them.
Dean Fry stepped up and duly converted the penalty to put the Arms in front. Roadrunners fell further behind just before the break when a fine pass by Biddestone newcomer Jack Goodship pick out Dean Fry in the penalty box and he duly lobbed the ball of the advancing keeper to make it 2-0.
Roadrunners got themselves back in the game after Andy Zuk ran on to finish and cut the gap to one. Biddestone's Adrian Bray made it 3-1 to the home side.
Roadrunners grabbed another after Gareth Simmonds finished well. Fry completed his hat trick after he was hauled down on the left hand edge of the box, he brushed himself down and coolly slotted the free kick home to make it 4-2.
Roadrunners grabbed another from Zuk to keep the game alive. Biddestone regained their two goal cushion as Bray left Roadrunners' keeper stranded as he made it 5-3. Roadrunners hit back through Simmonds and Simon Hardwick to take their first point of the season.
Division Three
THE top two sides in Division Three put their unbeaten records on the line and it was Parsons Nose who emerged victorious as they inflicted bitter rivals Four Seasons with their first loss of the season.
Despite their win Parsons Nose remain second in the table but their 3-2 victory saw them close the gap to four points but with three games in hand.
Parsons Nose went 1-0 to the good within two minutes of the kick off through Wayne Bailey but from then on the majority of fist half possession belonged to the Seasons turned things around and went in at the break 2-1 up via an Adam Smith double.
Parsons Nose pressed hard looking for an equaliser, which duly arrived, in the 72nd minute through Mark James. The Melksham side sealed their win in the 82nd minute with Gavin Bailey grabbing the winner just moments after coming on as a substitute.
A Paul McCarty goal was all that it took to give Pig & Whistle United a 1-0 victory over Potterne FC.
Old Lane United continued their great revival as they stretched their unbeaten sequence to three matches following their 4-2 defeat of Sir Audley's Arms, although he didn't find the score sheet Stuart White was instrumental in Old Lane's win setting up three of their four goals which came from Mike Austin (2), Jamie Collier and new boy Kelvin Page.
Old Lane had a few anxious moments late on when Steve Mallard bagged two within a minute for the Arms to give them cause for concern.
The Old Lane, who in their previous two games had thrown away advantages before settling for a draw, made no mistake on this occasion as they shut up shop and made sure that they would finish with two points rather than one.
Trowbridge Town Supporters club traveled to Rowde to play Hare & Hounds only to find out when they got there that someone had disappeared with the home club's goal nets.
Both teams then returned to Bratton where the Hounds set about gaining revenge over the Town for last weeks 2-1 defeat and even though they fell behind to a Steve Munday goal they hit back to earn a 3-1 success.
Tim Wootton picked himself up to score from the penalty spot to make it 1-1, Paul Revening set up Wootton for his 2nd of the game that put the Hounds to the fore and when the Town were caught on the break while trying to find an equalizer Niall McLean wrapped things up with the Hounds 3rd.
Warren Jones and Kelvin Stewart both knocked home two goals respectively as Corsham Park Rangers won 5-2 at Cooper Avon, Rob Varley was Rangers other scorer while Shane Thornton and Steve Purnell hit the net for the tyremen.
Division Four
MATT Chilcott was outstanding for Bear Casuals in their game with Fascia Graphics but despite his heroics he was unable to prevent Fascia from claiming a 4-0 victory, Steven Coast started and finished the scoring for Fascia with Gary Knowles and Ian Ball's strikes sandwiching Coast's efforts.
North Star B beat fourth-placed Classic FC 2-1. Nick Bloodworth and Adam Godwin's first half goals were enough for the Star despite Pete Brock's 65th minute consolation.
Old Road Tavern returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Pack Horse Rangers. Neil Roynon headed Tavern's first before Rob Dark doubled their lead from the penalty spot. Andy Crayford set up Roynon for his second before Rangers replied through Daniel Pickford.
