SCREWFIX FIRST DIVISION: CALNE bounced back from their defeats against Street and Melksham last week with a professional performance at Wellington.
A goal in each half from brothers Matt and Ryan Pratley proved enough to earn Kelvin Highmore's side the points and move them up to 11th.
"We played well. I had a chat with them before the game the game because recently we have been getting punished for the errors we've been making," said Highmore.
"I told the to try to erase those errors and play with more freedom. The main thing was to defend first and play second and if there were to be any errors to make sure they were further up the pitch.
"I felt the 2-0 score-line flattered Wellington. Their goalkeeper made five brilliant saves and was my man of the match.
"It was good to win but with the silly goals we've been conceding I got more enjoyment out of keeping a clean sheet.
"I'd been looking for a bit of a reaction and it was a professional performance. Going forward we played them off the park at times."
The game burst into life on nine minutes when Wellington's Mark Brereton swung in a corner and Leon Taswell's header was punched clear by goalkeeper Dave Hunt.
Calne replied with Danny Jones breaking two tackles and crossing for Glenn Armstrong who saw his shot turned wide by goalkeeper Sam Carreau.
From this point on Calne were in control and took the lead on 22 minutes when Jones chipped forward for Matt Pratley to lob Carreau.
The striker could have scored twice more before the break but could not convert chances set up by Armstrong and Robbie Lardner.
The second half saw Calne continue their fine display and Matt Pratley's effort from James Lye's pass was hacked off the line by Darren Grabham.
The away side did double their lead in the 65th minute when Armstrong blasted in a cross-shot that Ryan Pratley bravely deflected into the net.
Wellington's best chance came on 71 minutes when Simon Ingram's corner-kick was headed goalwards by Greg Hammond but Graham Ford cleared off the line.
Matt Pratley and Armstrong continued to stretch the home defence and Lardner should have wrapped the match up when he went clean through but fired over from 18 yards.
On Saturday Calne entertain Shrewton United who have just ended a four game losing run with a win over Larkhall. Highmore added: "I've always said that Shrewton are a good side and it is a big game for us."
The manager will check on the fitness of Ben Highmore and wants Glenn Armstrong back in the fold after he signed for Swindon Supermarine last week. "Glenn's not on a contract with either team so he can play in both leagues," Highmore said. "We said we'd never stand in a player's way but he only came on as a late sub for them.
"Simon Hill discussed it with Tommy Saunders and said we had no problem with him joining them but if they were only using him as a fourth sub we'd get more out of him here. We're light on strikers at the moment and Tom let him stay with us and Glenn played well and made a good team effort on Saturday."
The Swindon club's boss Tommy Saunders said he did not mind Armstrong turning out for Calne but only if he did not need him at Supermarine. Armstrong is likely to be in Saunders squad for their home clash with Cinderford Town on Saturday.
Highmore is looking to address his striker shortage by signing on Bemerton youngster Craig Lewis. He was due to talk to the player this week.
