FORMER Mayor of Marlborough Nick Fogg has taken some of his Town Council colleagues to task for forgetting the residents of one High Street alleyway.
The council's planning committee was discussing a planning application from Waitrose for the installation of a new stand-by generator in the existing loading bay behind the shop.
The generator is needed to keep the store's freezers, chiller cabinets and tills going in the event of a grid failure.
Waitrose has experienced a couple of costly incidents where food had to be destroyed because of power failures.
Councillors proposed no objection because there was no-one within earshot of the shop. But Coun Fogg objected, saying residents of Alma Place could hear sound from the loading bay.
The committee went along with the view of Coun Maurice Cooper who said there should be no objection as long as the generator was within the noise levels recommended by Kennet District Council environmental health officers.
