ON the afternoon of Thursday January 22 I had occasion to visit the Broad Green Community Centre and upon arrival I found that there were four unattended council vans in the car park.

When I left, some two hours later, three of these vans were still parked there.

Earlier in the week I drove through the Brunel north multi-storey car park where I saw no less than six council vans parked side by side. I sincerely hope that the use of all these vans can be justified.

In times of great financial restraint and with the high cost of road tax, insurance, petrol and maintenance this could very well be an area where considerable savings can be made. Or perhaps every council worker is entitled, under his terms of employment, to the use of a council van?
