I CANNOT form an opinion about local income tax (letters, Derek Parker, January 22) when so many of my questions remain unanswered.
Will the local authority be responsible for collecting this tax and if so, who within this authority will have access to details of my income?
Who will pay the set up costs for such a system and can we guarantee that it will work considering the
problems in the past with council tax credits and child tax credits?
Will it fall to the Inland Revenue? They, I suspect, will pass this burden to add to the collection of student loans and payment of tax credits, to my clients through their PAYE systems.
If this is the case, will we be taxed where we work or where we live and will the payroll system need to
include council and parish details?
Will it simply be added to general taxation and distributed by the Government?
