GAZETTE & HERALD: Traffic lights are currently causing exasperation for many drivers in Chippenham but it will get better in the coming weeks, said Wiltshire County Council.
Last week, drivers trying to get to Monkton Park, Chippenham station and Wiltshire College found themselves queuing as far back as Malmesbury Road, as Southern Electric carried out work in Cocklebury Road.
While on the A4 between Chippenham and Derry Hill, temporary lights are in operation until the end of March. Temporary lights are also in operation near the Pheasant roundabout on Bath Road, as developers begin work on the new B&Q.
And Wessex Water has been carrying out work on a sewer collapse at the junction of Greenway Lane and Malmesbury Road, with work due for completion on Monday.
Tim Northey, owner of Easy's Taxis in Sheldon Road, said his drivers and passengers have found the sudden cluster of roadworks a huge inconvenience.
"The lights in Cocklebury Road last week were a complete nightmare as this road is the only route into the train station, Monkton Park and the College," he said.
The longest-running traffic problems remain at the Folly crossroads at the foot of Hardenhuish Lane, as Wiltshire County Council installs traffic calming and new traffic lights. That project is due for completion early next month.
