CHIPPENHAM NEWS: PEOPLE power has paid off for a group of teenagers in Corsham who will now be able to use the town's BMX track safely again.

The £10,000 facility next to the town's Springfield Leisure Centre opened for use in September. But when a security fence was installed two months later the older riders found themselves unable to get full use of the track.

Despite the fence appearing to conform to health and safety guidelines the more experienced riders no longer had enough room to land their higher speed jumps. When building an impromptu crash barrier failed to solve the problem, the bikers were left in the lurch until parent Chris Hughes contacted Corsham Town Council on their behalf.

Councillors last week agreed to fund improvements, which will see the run off from jumps extended to 8m and a second ramp added. While the existing fencing had not broken any rules, members felt better guidelines were needed to govern such projects.
