MARTIN Paul believes Chippenham Town's new attacking style would suit him down to the ground his only problem is getting the chance to prove it.
The Bluebirds' striker has spent most of Steve White's two-month reign at the club sitting on the subs bench but came off it on Saturday to score from the penalty spot.
White knows all about Paul's scoring prowess having been assistant manager at Bath City when the striker scored over 80 goals in two-and-a-half seasons at Twerton Park and Paul is confident he could find that form again.
He said: "I scored a lot of goals at Bath and Chippenham are playing a lot like the old Bath side used to when I enjoyed my time there.
"It is attacking football, with a lot of forward thrust, a lot of crosses and a lot of chances and I am fairly confident if I got my chance I would score as many as the other boys are.
"It is different to the Chippenham of last season who ground out single goal wins without creating many chances. My problem now is getting a starting place."
He continued: "Steve White knows what I can do to be honest he probably knows me better than I know myself.
"When I play football, I play on instinct but Steve can predict what I am going to do next.
"I have to keep knuckling down and hopefully make an impact and wait for my chance for 90 minutes."
Town entertain Paul's old teammates tomorrow, Newport County, and the 28-year-old joked he would have to have a word with his manager before the game.
"I always score against my old clubs," he said. "I will have to persuade Steve to put me in the team.
"The thing about Newport is their away form is much better than their home form. If they could reproduce their away form at home they would probably be top of the league by 20 points, so it will be a tough game.
"They will come here to win which will hopefully suit us as we are playing with confidence and we will hopefully get another three points.
"We beat them 4-0 a few weeks ago and they have everything to prove. It will be interesting to see what sort of team they put out."
After turning down two offers for Paul from Bath City, Chippenham accepted Merthyr Tydfil's £2,000 bid last week but Paul opted to stay at Hardenhuish and fight for his place.
He said: "It is in the club's hands. It only goes into my hands when the club accepts an offer and so far we have only had one which I said no to.
"So although there is a lot of speculation it does not bother me because until I get a phone call from my manager saying they have accepted an offer there is nothing I can do about it.
"I am more than happy to stay because if I wasn't I would have accepted the move to Merthyr.
"Financially it was a better offer so if it were about the money I would have gone. But it is mostly the same group of lads here as it was at the start of the season and I want to stay and try and help them out of the position I have contributed to them being in."
