YOUNG bookworms at Bratton Primary School are busy nominating their favourite novels for an upcoming awards ceremony.
The pupils have been reading through a selection of children's books before delivering their verdict at the annual Carnegie Greenaway Day at Salisbury library on February 4.
They and children at two other Wiltshire schools will be joining with teachers, librarians and literacy professionals to nominate four books for this year's Carnegie and Greenaway medals.
A group of county council librarians in Wiltshire have drawn up a list of books published in 2003 as possible contenders for each medal.
The guest speaker will be children's author Eileen Browne, whose books include Handa's Surprise and Tick-Tock and the day will finish with a vote on the favourite two books in each category.
Judges at the Chartered Institute of Librarians and Information Professionals will consider these and other nominations from across the country and two winners will be selected in July.
The Carnegie Medal is awarded to the author of a book written for young people while the Kate Greenaway Medal honours the best in illustrated children's books.
