Ref. 27836TEENAGE rock groups raised the roof at the third Matravers School annual Battle of the Bands contest on Monday.
Over 200 teenagers turned up to the competition at the school in Westbury to watch 11 bands battle for the title.
Winners Desid, a five-piece band from Melksham, scooped top prize winning £80 of music vouchers and will now make their own CD at the school's music studio.
Organisers hailed this year's competition as the biggest yet.
Darian Nelson, community arts officer, said: "We were all very impressed with Desid they were very melodic and were a cross between Pink Floyd and The Doors.
"We had some bands like Vamerca and Four Hour Drive who are doing exceptionally around the region and others who came here for a good old thrash on their guitars."
Second place was awarded to Picture Nothing from Trowbridge and third prize was won by last year's winners Vamerca, who are made up of pupils from Clarendon School.
The four judges were all music specialists or teachers and organisers are now planning a fourth Battle of the Bands next year.
