Ref. 27840POLICE have praised a brave Westbury resident after his information helped them recover property stolen from a home in the town's Oldfield Park area.
The man, who does not wish to be named, challenged a group of burglars he disturbed at the home in Beech Grove at 7pm on January 10.
Although he was hit on the head with a metal bar as the burglars escaped, he was still able give descriptions of his attackers and their getaway car.
After conducting house-to-house inquiries, police were tipped off that the goods, which included a TV and DVD player, may have been stored at a house in Trowbridge. Officers then raided the Trowbridge home on Thursday night where they found the stolen goods.
Acting on further information received over the weekend, police arrested a man in connection with the burglary on Monday morning.
Sgt Jim Stannard, of Westbury police, said officers were still looking for another man and woman also believed to have been involved.
He said: "All the officers here felt a strong sense of duty in this case. Because a member of the public was assaulted in helping us we felt an obligation to go to the nth degree with the investigation."
