Ref. 27839FIVE-YEAR-OLD Sam proved his nose is still in fine working order when he led police to a stash of what they believe is cannabis resin.
The English Springer Spaniel was called into action on Tuesday morning when police in Westbury carried out drugs warrants at two homes in the town.
Acting on intelligence, police raided a home in Oldfield Park at 10am where they arrested and later charged a man after discovering cannabis. Then at around 11.30am a second raid on a home in Fell Road saw Sam discover a 5oz bar of suspected cannabis resin.
Officers described how Sam made a beeline for a kitchen cupboard soon after entering the house.
Sam's handler, PC Phil Thom said: "He is a very experienced dog. We have been working together since September and are becoming a good team."
A woman arrested in connection with the second raid has been released on police bail.
Sgt Jim Stannard, of Westbury police, said: "This is a warning that the re-classification of cannabis doesn't mean that it is legal to have it in your possession."
