Ref. 27849THE main road between Dilton Marsh and Chapmanslade was due to reopen yesterday after a fallen tree blocked traffic in both directions.
The tree fell across the A3098 at the junction between Chalcot Lane and Short Street at 6.20pm on Wednesday as snow quickly covered west Wiltshire.
To add to the confusion, a car finished up stuck beneath the tree as its driver failed to brake properly on the icy surface.
Police closed the road, but as the weather worsened recovery vehicles were unable to get to the scene until Thursday.
Temperatures plunged well below freezing on Wednesday as icy winds covered much of the area in snow.
The cold front forced temperatures to 3 degrees below freezing in Trowbridge and weather chiefs recorded 15mm of snow.
